Check weighing scales are used by industry to compare the weight of its products with predetermined limits set within the scale; some people also refer to this process as tolerance weighing. Different models of scales and balances have different ways of indicating the upper and lower limits, some check weighing scales show the limits as lights (red, amber, green).

Others give auidible signals and some give a bar graph on their graphical displays. Check weighing scales can be commonly found in production lines, used to ensure filling and packaging machines are producing packed goods at the correct weights. Some of these scales do need to be trade approved.
